Aarisi Paruppu Sadam|Rice and Dal Variety rice|Tasty and healthy quick recipe|Lunch box recipe

Rice is primarily composed of carbs.Carbs in rice are mainly in the form of starch. Acts as a source of fuel for the body. Rice is made up of long chains of complex carbohydrates that take time to break down. Thus, carbohydrates present in rice provide a constant supply of energy. Rice is gluten free and so it has gained popularity among those who are avoiding wheat products. 
This is my grandma's recipe its a easy one that we could make for office or kids lunch its a quick recipe try out and enjoy..

INGREDIENTS REQUIRED:
Rice -1 cup
Toor dal-1/4 cup
Small onions-5-6
Green chilli-2
Tomato-1 ripe
Garlic - 3-4
curry leaves-1 spring
oil-2tsp
Mustard seed-1/2 tsp
fennel seeds-1tsp
Garam masala-1/2 tsp
Turmeric powder-1/2 tsp
Salt - 1-2 tsp

Step 1:

Wash the rice and dal and soak it in water for 20 mins. I have take 1 cup rice and 1/4 cup dal.


Cut small onions into small pieces, slit the green chilli, chop the tomato.Peel 4 clove of garlic and mash it with a stone grinder or u can cut it into small pieces.


Step 2:


Take a pressure cooker add 2 tsp oil/ghee heat it.Add mustard seeds, Fennel seeds allow them to splutter.Add onions fry well then green chilli, tomato and garlic fry well.Add turmeric, Garam masala and curry leaves.Add 1tsp salt.

Step 3:


Add the soaked rice with water.For 1 cup rice add 2 cups of water if u want the rice to be more soft add 1/4 cup more water.

Step 4:


Check salt and pressure cook the rice for 3 whistles.Sprinkle some coriander leaves and spring onion  leaves its optional.


Cook well.After 3 whistles switch off the flame and let the pressure release completely.


The rice is cooked well and tastes yummy..Its simple and delicious try out..!!

Sambar Rice/Sambar Sadam|Healthy Sambar Rice Recipe

Toor Dal makes for tasty accompaniment with rice and has amazing health benefits. It is rich in protein and folic acid which is important for a healthy body.


Today's recipe is a tongue-tingling Sambar Rice Recipe:
It's a South Indian cuisine and has a number of health benefits.
Rice is a rich source of carbohydrates and along with toor dal and vegetables, it's a power-packed nutrient-rich recipe.

Ingredients Required:(serves 4)
1/2 cup toor dal( Split Pigeon Peas)
2 cup rice
vegetables of your choice(brinjal, peas, potato, beans, carrot, drumstick, raw banana)
1 large tomato
6 small onions
small size tamarind
Sambar powder-2tsp
Chilli powder-2tsp
Cumin powder-1tsp
Turmeric powder
Asafoetida-1tsp
Mustard seeds-1tsp
Fenugreek seeds-1/2 tsp
curry leaves-5-6
coriander powder-1tsp
coriander leaves-handful
Ghee/oil 4-5tsp

Step 1:
Soak the rice in water for 20 mins, cook in pressure cooker for 3 whistles. Add 2 1/2 cup water for 1 cup rice, you can also use boiling and straining the rice method to cook the rice.








Step 2:
Cook the toor dal with turmeric powder, salt, Cumin powder and one tomato cut into pieces(you can also add one garlic) in a pressure pan for 4 whistles.








Step 3:
keep the cooked rice and cooked dal ready. In a big pan heat 1tsp oil/ghee and add mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds, and curry leaves allow it to splutter.









Step 4:
Cut small onions and the vegetables for making the sambar rice. Add onions to the oil fry well then add the vegetables and fry well till the raw smell leaves.
Step 5:
Add 2tsp sambar powder,2tsp chili powder,1tsp coriander powder 1tsp salt and mix well. Add the cooked dal to the pan, add 100ml of water, boil well with a closed lid.




Step 6:
After 15 mins all the vegetables would have cooked well at this stage add tamarind pulp(soak tamarind in hot water extract the pulp) boil for a minute then add 1/2 tsp salt or according to your taste.

Step 7:
Add the cooked rice to the dal and vegetable mix well. Add 2 tsp ghee and mix well..close lid turn low flame and wait till it thickens stir well when it reaches semi-solid state switch of the stove, Add 2 tsp of ghee on top, sprinkle some coriander leaves mix well and enjoy the yummy Sambar Sadam/Rice.




Serve the Sambar Sadam hot with papad/Chips/pickle
